Bedbug Pre Treatment Checklist

  1. Regular Home Inspections: Conduct regular checks at home to identify early signs of an infestation, such as small reddish-brown clusters or dark fecal spots.
  2. Prepare the Area: Before treatment, remove all bedding, curtains, and clothing. Wash these items at 60 degrees Celsius and dry them on a hot setting for at least 30 minutes or have them dry cleaned. Empty bedside cabinets and drawers under beds and remove all items from the floors and under beds.

  3. Washing and Drying: Infested bedding should be washed at a high temperature of at least 60℃ for 90 minutes minimum. After washing, items should be placed in a tumble dryer for a minimum 30-minute cycle.

  4. Vacuuming: Thoroughly vacuum the bed, mattress, and any areas near where bed bugs have been spotted. Use hose attachments to clean along walls and around edges.

  5. Declutter and Tidy: Reduce clutter to give bed bugs fewer places to hide. Ensure all areas of the bedroom, particularly the floor around and underneath the bed as well as bedside cabinets, are tidy and free from potential bedbug hiding spots4.

  6. Avoid Cross-Contamination: Do not move any clothes, suitcases, or furniture out of the infested area to prevent spreading bed bugs to other parts of your home or to other people’s homes.
