Your local pest controller in Cross Roads

Cross Roads with Lees sits on the A629 between Keighley and Haworth, in the heart of Brontë Country. The village takes its name from the crossroads where the old Haworth to Bingley road meets the main road. It is really a group of old hamlets, including Lees, Barcroft and Bocking, that have grown together over time. We are based in Keighley, about two and a half miles away, so Cross Roads is right on our doorstep.

Whatever you are dealing with, whether mice behind the skirting, a wasp nest in the eaves, fleas brought in by the cat or molehills across the lawn, we can help. Every job begins with a survey to pin down the cause. We then talk you through a treatment plan and explain how to keep the problem from returning.

We hold the qualifications needed to use professional rodenticides and insecticides. Alongside rodents and insects, our work covers moles, bed bugs, fleas, wasp nests and dead animal removal for homes and commercial premises. Shops, pubs, landlords and other businesses in the village can ask us for a one-off treatment or for help proofing a building, and we will suggest a sensible, practical fix.

Rats and mice in Cross Roads and Lees

Cross Roads grew up as a mill and farming community. Syke Mill at Lees is thought to have been the first mill in the valley, and stone quarrying and hand-loom weaving once provided much of the work. Today the village still has fields, farm buildings and walled lanes around it, with Harden Moor out along Bingley Road and the Worth Valley steam railway within sight of the village. Stone walls, outbuildings and open land give rats plenty of cover, and mice often move into older stone houses when the weather turns cold.

We cover the whole parish, including Lees, Barcroft and Bocking, along with neighbouring Haworth, Oakworth and Oxenhope.

Signs we look for

  • Droppings along skirting boards, in kitchen units or in the loft space
  • Runs and burrows by dry-stone walls, sheds, hen houses and compost bins
  • Chewed packaging, insulation or wiring
  • Scratching or scuttling in walls and ceilings once it gets dark

How we work

We look over the house, garden and any outbuildings, confirm whether it is rats or mice, and track down the way in. You then get a plain-English explanation and a plan we agree together. We use traps and, only where they are justified, tamper-resistant bait stations, in line with CRRU UK stewardship guidance. That is important where pets, farm animals and wildlife are close by. We return to check progress, take away all bait once it is no longer needed, and after treatment we carry out or advise on proofing so rodents can’t find their way back in.

We come out to your property in Cross Roads and survey it to find what is causing the problem.

3

Before any treatment begins, we agree the plan with you.

4

We carry out the work, and where the job calls for it we return to check it has worked.
